Quality at it’s best
We at BullionWork creating hand embroideries since the 4th generation. We focus basically on goldwork and thread work, crafting masterpieces of art, catering our services to ecclesiastical work, both for catholic as well as orthodox churches.
The art of goldwork we are engaged in dates back to the medieval ages and the basic tradition is still followed with the primitive techniques being inherited to this age. Like in the old days all the processes are done manually under the supervision of highly skilled craftsmen.
Throughout history, gold has been a symbol of affluence and status. Goldwork or the Bullion Work embroidery is one of the oldest English embroidery techniques with records dating from before the 10th century. Before that, little was documented and was mainly pictorial reference in the 7th century, the actual embroidery has very ancient roots, two thousand years ago it was known in the Middle East moving over the continents and established itself firmly in Europe. Traditionally goldwork embroidery was worn on ecclesiastical vestments and church trappings i.e. alter frontals, pulpit falls, etc. Also in Royal circles and rich aristocratic families, for them, it was an ostentatious display of wealth and power.
Mostly worked through churches and specially trained groups it was classed as a great art because of its fine art concept and historical properties. Kept very much for the higher classes and those rich enough to employ these artistic embroiderers.
Goldwork also sets its roots to various other streams like military embellishments and fashion etc.. It is believed that the art was introduced in India by Lord Cornwallis during the colonial era.
I have been a great admirer of art and I love to create masterpieces using various techniques, inherited from my ancestors. Having been in this field for over almost 60 years, we have gotten the chance to be a part of key historical moments as well, such as creating embroidery pieces for Prince Charles.
We also aim with great passion to provide customization and personalization services for everyone.
